Zoo Again

Today we went to the Minnesota Zoo again.  Our membership expires at the end of the month and we have no plans to renew it so we are having an end of the pass push.  Ok, it was -7 degrees this morning and I have 3 kids who apparently have nothing to do but fight so we are going to the zoo.

The animals were out this morning people watching.

We said hello to pumba.  We told him that we saw his movie just the other day.

They still had the sand box out so we stopped to play a while.

This looks like it is tons of fun until the sand gets in your girl parts and dad has to get it out in the zoo bathroom.

Once again K prefered the turtles to the sand.

She makes such a pretty flower.

We watched the town meeting for a little bit.

The turtle said hello.

On the way home we stopped at my weakness.  A yarn store is like kryptonite to me.  I went in to buy some yarn to make a blanket square to remember our trip to Le Crosse last weekend and somehow ended up with 3 skeins.  This means that I have used 3 skeins from my stash and now I have added 3 skeins to it.  So much for my progress on that 2015 goal lol.

Camping and Travel Show

Wow what a day!!!  We started early this morning ok, early for a Saturday lol.  We wanted to hit the road early so Z would hopefully not be crabby on the way home.

G an Z were ready to go long before everyone else was.  They had no clue what was going on but they were ready.

To go to the camping and travel show in St Cloud.  It was a total bust for us.  We were hoping for travel and tourism stuff for places to day/weekend trip to as well as stuff to add to our vacation to the up later this summer.  They had 8 booths of campground info and the rest was RVs.  We are not in a financial position to buy an RV so those were out.

Z did have fun riding her dad around for the first time so we know that will be an option to have on our vacation.

The convention center which had the RV show also has an amature baseball hall of fame which is free so we checked that out as well.

They had lots of cool things to see.

Old bats and gloves and even seats from the old Met Center in Bloomington.

I had to explain to my kids the novelty of this machine and how neat it was to see it repurposed as a trinket dispenser.  It sold things like flip books and jewelry all boxed in the same sized boxes as cigarettes.  I so wished that I had cash because the stupid old machine didn't take credit cards lol.

We even made a stop in Becker to see Z's godmother on our way home.

It ended up being a rather fun day of doing a whole lot of nothing.

Movie Night

Sometimes the boys being both Catholic and Lutheran kinda sucks like for instance it is now Lent so no meat for them on Fridays.

So tuna salad it is.  I use the term tuna salad very loosely because their version of tuna salad is just tuna and mayo.  Also, they like to use it as a dip for crackers not as a sandwich.

G tried to teach Z how to play leap frog.  Z thought that he wanted to wrestle and she held her own against her big brother too.

With Z and I still not feeling the greatest we decided to have a family movie night.  Lion King is a nice family friendly movie that kept the boys entertained for 30 minutes or so and Z for around 5 minutes.

Ok the boys took off to their room as soon as the popcorn was gone lol.

I started my next pair of socks too.  This pair is going to be for Z and I hope mine end up looking as cute as the ones in the book do.  The up side about Z socks is that they go super quick.

Strep

Why oh why do I always end up with whatever the kids bring home?

D took a half day today to bring Z into the clinic because we thought that she had another ear infection.  Well the good news was that her ears were clear the bad news was that she has strep.  He asked them to test her because it is going around at daycare.

Well, I have had a sore throat for 2 days and thought that was it until her test came up positive.  On the up side her doctor just cut me a prescription without the test because it has a tendency to spread within a family so the odds were good that thats what I have.  

Bonus points for not having to do the strep test because that test is the worst.  I would rather go to the lady doctor every day for a week than do a strep test.  Heck I would do it for a month if it meant that I didn't have to have that giant q-tip jammed down my throat.

So Z spent the afternoon getting our meds and doing some shopping at Target.

I spent the evening being lazy and feeling like crap while I knit away on my next pair of socks.  This pair is for myself.  It is a standard k3, p1 rib with 56 stitches.  I used Lana Grossa in the color 8348.

This is my third pair of 2015.  My goal is 10 pair so I think that I am off to a good start.

Wordless Wednesday

Once again No Tech Tuesday leads to I don't want to talk to you mom Wednesday.

Only one kid eats breakfast at home during the week so I have no clue why we have so many boxes of cereal.  He said that they were on sale and he had a coupon I just shake my head and tell him that just because they are on sale and you have a coupon is no reason to buy so many.

Last weekend when we were out and about I bought a backpack for G.  It looked cool and glows in the dark but I swore something wasn't quite right about it.  Well, today I figured it out.

So let me repeat that this is a backpack as in it goes on your back.  If that is true then why oh why is it the front of a rib cage?  If it was supposed to be the back it would have vertebrae instead of a sternum wouldn't it?

No Tech Tuesday

We are still keeping up with our No Tech Tuesday thing.  The boys actually are starting to look forward to it now.

Today we worked on our puzzle and it is starting to take shape finally.

We paid bills.  We discussed finances with the boys too.  We don't want them to end up in debt because they have no clue how to budget or work a checkbook.

We made a quick and easy dinner of toaster strudels.

We also decided to start something new.  What we decided to do is look in the freezer or ads and find a main ingredient to find a new recipe to try.  This one came from the freezer and it is a whole cut up chicken.

We have it narrowed down to a few different things to try so stay tuned to see what we decide to make.

Trip Blankets 2014

Now that I finally got a camera again I took pics of our trip blankets as of the end of 2014.  I would say to current but I am 3 blocks behind so far for the year so it is only 2014 progress.

I last blogged about them here.  But, what they are is every important moment or trip we go on I buy a skein of sock yarn to add a block to each persons blanket.  Someday my kids are going to go out on their own and this way they will have something to remember all those times we spent together.  Ok and then I don't have to buy some crappy t-shirt or something on every trip.

I will start in age order so D's is up first.  He has 59 blocks now.  All of the pattern links are on the old blog post and on my Ravelry page so I am going to skip those this time.

Next would be mine.  I am also at 59 blocks.

K is at 49 because we make some trips while the boys are at their dads and others were done while K was at scouting things.

G is at 51 blocks so not that much farther than K.

Last but not least bringing up the rear is Z.  Hers was started 2 years after the boys so she only has 21 squares.  For just having it a little over a year I would say that she is doing well.
